Almost May, I Think🤔

Last day of double feeding the yeast beast. This morning’s discard made sourdough walnut banana bread

I had a piece of ginger that I soaked over night, attempting to grow a ginger plant

It was school supply pickup yesterday:(

I have switched my current love to plants to indoor ones. I usually don’t have the best luck with the indoor plants but going to give it a try

Flowers on full bloom in the front yard

We found a hidden plant nursery that also has tropical birds to visit

A new plant of mine and I absolute have no idea what it is...

The Yeast Beast

I am still giving the yeast beast sourdough starter one feeding a day, starting tomorrow it gets two feedings. The starter has really come along so I can’t make myself waste the cup of discard daily. Tonight I made sourdough blueberry muffins.

The yeast beast

I love Fieldin dearly but he doesn’t have the best follow through on projects he gets bored with so while I wait for the oven buzzer I work on these left over projects. Yesterday, I finished this leather carrier for his sketchbook. I also started on a set of mini lanterns..

Yesterday I made sourdough snickerdoodles. Tomorrow I may try pizza dough..

Sunday

Day three of feeding my sourdough starter. It’s starting to bubble and show signs of life. I can’t wait  until it’s ready. It’s gross to think but we most have some good yeast floating around in the environment.. the lunch lady is also the science teacher so I am loving this sourdough experience.

The mountains called and we answered today. A great day out in the fresh air and far from people before the rain starts this week.

They found an old treasure..
Garden update: we can see shoots of peas, carrots, lettuce, kale, beans and cucumbers in the garden. Still no bell pepper and cilantro was planted yesterday. Pretty soon I can replant my squash, tomato and jalapeño starts. Today I bought cherry tomato starts and tomatillo plants from our favorite farmer.

Garage Music Video

Saturday

These days of isolating are making me tired:) so much to do that by evening I fall into the couch. Yesterday was overhauling Fieldin’s room and hanging up a few things on the painted walls.

I love the smell of roses. My neighbor doesn’t cut hers back to the ground like I do so she has a bush of beautiful smelling roses already.

I planted 2 containers of cat grass for Tater Tot and she mowed it down like a lawn mower in seconds. Looks like I need to start a plant rotation going so she always has fresh grass.

A boy and his cat watching the birds

Flowers are coming up in the library area, hopefully the bushes will disguise the missing swing area. Getting an area prepped in the side yard to finally get some landscaping done.

My porch is filling with pots

Seedling Updates

As my garden is growing I’m still taking care of more seeds and moving them in at night.
I love nasturtiums and these babies are about ready to be planted in pots

These are all my tomato plants. This was an experiment but I think I will get a few good plants out of these! They are bush steaks and are so good in salsa

Butternut squash (below) started popping up in my containers today.

My basil is doing great and I will need purge and replant again soon. I’m still waiting on the jalapeños and cacti.. overall my first real try at growing plants has been pretty fun. Never thought I would research  how to make banana peel tea for my tomatoes and crushing egg shells. Oh and Jeff’s morning coffee grounds should take care of my old slug pals...

Friends or Foes

I used to love the cute little snails in our yard until I started a garden. I realized today they are hiding in one of my garden boxes and wreaking havoc!

We found this today. One bean plant down:(

They were hidden in all four corners like this. My little friends have waged a war...

Friday

Fieldin is still walking the cat and lets her smell the flowers:)

I love the gift of fresh eggs, the colors are gorgeous

On our walk last night. The message is made out of rhododendron flowers

Day one of home made sourdough starter! We will see what day seven brings??

We have a beautiful new woodpecker that eats in our backyard

Coloring contest...

Now that we found some great history books, this little guy loves his morning reading time

Another Day

Kitty spends her days on top or inside her box

Our draw off’s.. we share a piece of paper, switch off coming up with a theme and have a draw off! We drew together for two hours tonight.

Neighborhood deer

I had work to do today at school. Fieldin came with me for a change of scenery and did his work in my classroom. It seemed so quiet and deserted there.

Monday Or Tuesday?.. I Think

An after lunch game with Fieldin in the garden. Some sad news.. my two person swing that I put near the book boxes was stolen during the night. This usually doesn’t happen around here so a bit shocked and saddened since so many people sat on it daily to read to children. That is truly what makes me most sad. I guess it is the sign of the times and I doubt whomever took it could know how important it was to many.

Two weeks of groceries. I don’t enjoy grocery shopping anymore, so shopping less works better for all.

Kitty play time

She tries to escape to eat this lupine because I think she thinks it’s my bean plants, which she loved to munch on. Problem is this is poisonous to her so we have to grab her away🙄

Some of the lilacs in the backyard

The cool thing about extra time.. I can whip up all kinds of stuff quickly. You want fry sauce? We are out of tartar sauce? No problem!

Moving some furniture off the front porch worked out well. It’s fun to watch the birds...

Look real close, people! That is lettuce sprouting out..woot woot. I can now see the beginning of lettuce, kale, radishes and peas in the garden plots. They are now covered with bird netting. I feel empowered!  Bringeth me the seed and I groweth! Not sure if that is a real sentence but that is how I talk now while in the garden:)
