Sunday

Making banana bread with week old bananas, writing thank you's, sneezing while dusting, laundry, playdate, enjoying nice cool weather, listening to the Mariners win today(somehow?) ....

a little backyard mayhem, a sink of ignored dirty dishes, secret spyglasses, double shot mocha, A NAP for moi(really!!!)

And hello hibiscus. My first bloom from my sullen spindly little plant. It greets me when I open the front door. All in all, a good day!

A Day To Remember

My mom had a very nice funeral yesterday and I know she would have loved her flowers, the setting and that alot of family came together to celebrate her. Being a mom gave me the strength I needed to get through the day. I mourned for my mom while being there to comfort and mother my own children. It reminded me how much my children rely on me daily just as I relied on my mother for strength. The cycle of life.
Thank you for all the thoughts, prayers, cards and flowers. I love you all.

Mom, You Will Be Missed....

My mom passed away last wednesday. It was unexpected and I miss her.
She was a beloved wife, mom and grandma. She loved Greta and Fieldin so much.
This week she will be laid to rest but never forgotten.
We love you mom and you will be missed each and every day.

A Cliche' I Know....

I know it is very cliche' but where has summer gone?
We have been blessed with more guests as of late and have forgotten to pay attention to what is going on outdoors. This morning I saw three sets of Fieldin's sand covered rain boots in a pile in the garage. He has grown out of all of them since summer began. I took a look at our cookie cutter front yard as I pulled out of the garage and decided it was time to add some color and fragrance and a trip to the nursery was a must. Fieldy and I dropped Greta off at drama camp( I know...like we need her to fine tune her dramatic skills even more but she is loving it!) and we headed to the nursery. We arrived to find limp, end of season plants, barely any roses and many markdowns.. I have missed all the growing seasons.. How did this happen? My gardening dreams will have to wait til next spring.
Time is flying too fast. The days have been extremely full. Fieldin is spewing out sentence after sentence. Greta is happiest among friends and wearing her dress up jewelry and twinkle toes. My rock/sea glass collection is growing and my time going to work out is decreasing. I stay up late reading and remedy it with a trip to the coffee stand each morning. I play more and turn the computer on less and less. I better enjoy these next few weeks of summer because it will pass by quickly. I have a school supply list hanging over my head...
Hope you all are having a nice summer.

My Aching Knees...

It has been hard keeping up with this blog this summer. Too many other things to do. One being, I took a zumba class last night. My knees are aching today! I kept up despite my lack of coordination. My instructor seemed to keep yelling my way"as long as your moving, your doing good!" I guess I may not have been moving as graceful as I thought I was in my head...
The kids have been busy with playdoh. Our kitchen table is covered in it. They eat their breakfast quickly so they can get to work. Fieldy tries to hurry up the cleanup and tries to put his cereal bowl away. Problem is, he keeps getting the sink and garbage confused. He proudly tosses his bowl and spoon in the garbage and claps for himself as he heads for his playdoh...Greta and I try to correct him most of the time but don't have the heart to ruin his proud moments.
Fieldin turned 22 mths yesterday. He and Greta spent part of the day at our sliding glass window. It was like a National Geographic special in our backyard. There is an empty field behind us and the neighborhood turkey voltures had found something in the field for lunch. The kids told me they were eating beans... Anyway. There were 8-10 huge turkey voltures flying low in our backyard and casting large dark shadows over the lawn. We could see them so close up. Fieldin stood bug eyed at the window saying"turkey"...I have to admit they were intimidating. The kids usually jump at the chance to be in the backyard but when I'd ask they would give me a low.."no......" can't blame them. Turkey voltures are gone as of yesterday afternoon so the kids and the finches(which fieldy calls "chubbies") that frequent our feeder can return to the backyard.
We are in a lull of activities right now and it is nice just to play with the kids. Fieldin spends 75% of his time dancing and singing these days which just warms my heart. Greta and I smile and cheer him on and teach him new songs. Greta has been busy drawing beautiful pictures for me. I love watching her draw and dance with her brother. She also spends time speeding around on her scooter with her barbies fastened to the front. It is a cute sight except her barbies never have clothes on..I guess she doesn't want their pretty dresses to get dirty.
and...Jeff and I have been "to do list" samurai's as of late, which means no beach trip last weekend. The kids didn't know what to do. Fieldy kept grabbing shorts from his closet and sneaking up behind us yelling"beach". If we got in the car he'd say "how about the beach?" and Miss Greta would roll her eyes and say"enough with the beach". Their time at home gave them time to work on new singing duets which is always a good thing and of course a trip for ice cream.
Blueberry season is about done here, which means less interesting diapers for me. Yippee! The kids and I are keeping a close eye on some nearby blackberry bushes. They are almost ready. We are enjoying all the different berries this region has and making notes for jam making next year.
That just about covers the last couple days. I hope to have some new pics or video(if they let me) soon.
