Pumpkins

We are running a little behind on our pumpkin carving this year.. but that is ok. Earlier in the day the pumpkins were hollowed out for easy after dinner carving and searching for the perfect design.
Greta just does her own thing now without help which is neat.
Both Greta and I carved owls this year. Here is mine(above)
Fieldin carved a snowman into his.He drew it out and did some of the carving.
Here are the kids pumpkins.. Good job you two.
 Jeff's R2D2.. Awesome
my owl
I can honestly say this is probably the only snowman pumpkin I will see out this Halloween :)
And Grets owl on a branch with a full moon...
Another successful pumpkin carving adventure.
I showed Greta how to roast the seeds and she did most of the work this year except putting them in the oven.

An Afternoon With Harry Potter

Another day celebrating the Halloween holiday today. The kids did a church Trick your Trunk this morning, which means we have way too much candy in the house and it's not even Halloween yet. Then we took Miss Greta to Halloween with Harry at the symphony. It was very fun. If you look close at the pic above you can see the lit candles "floating" in the air. Very fun to see. She is wearing a bag I knitted her. It started out as a scarf for her but looked too big and I knew I wouldn't finish in time. So I made a bag. It worked well because it held her goodies from Diagon Alley. I love when mistakes turn out well.
Here are the kids making Troll boogers and potions. They both brought there troll boogers home... they really look like they belong to a troll..
 getting some butterbeers..
and being sorted by the Sorting Hat. To her dismay she was put into Hufflepuff house not Gryfinndor.
A fuzzy view of the Hogwarts logo and floating candles. Greta really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it. Fieldin got antsy except for when Voldemort talked then he laughed and laughed.... anyway.. A fun afternoon and beautiful music.

Early Trick Or Treating

Before we did our weekend errands we took the kids downtown for early trick or treating. Here's me bundled up for the fog with the wicked witch of the West and our Clone Trooper.
When they got home there was a lot of counting and trading of candy... and a cat that wanted Greta's hat..
 downtown getting treats

I can tell these two are getting older because they bypass the very crowded areas.. and stick to the easy pickings. I'm very o.k. with that.
and a quick note, Greta had her first bball game of the season. She got a basket and a lot of rebounds and was very happy with how she did. (She is the one with the black wrist bound with her arms up under the basket in the blue and white shirt)

Class Pumpkin Patch

Today was the little man's pumpkin patch fieldtrip in his Pre- K class. I was working so Jeff went this year.
The farmer had Fieldin and Jeff drive the tractor back from the patch. It sounded like that was Fieldin's favorite part!
And the homemade donuts were the next best thing....
It sounds like Jeff and Fieldin had a good time and came home with two good pumpkins.

Thank you Jeff for taking such good pics for me! I feel like I was there.

Around Here- They Are Getting Older

Around here, we are do holiday stuff.. the kids made Halloween cookies the other night and usually they would need my help rolling the dough and getting their cookies on the sheet but they did it all by themselves.. then they iced and decorated them.

He always looks like an otter when he sleeps...
They are reading, quoting and giggling at Garfield again.... I found them this way Sunday morning for awhile...

I love the colors of my roses in the Fall.
Putting them to work.. Fieldin can wash and take the skins off the carrots and Greta can cut them. I have big plans for these helpers in the kitchen from now on.. they are excited to help but then Greta came down with a bug so she is currently banned from the kitchen for a bit. When she is better I am putting them in charge of veggie prep and measuring.. and maybe intro to water boiling for Greta.

Falling Leaves

So a few years back I introduced the kids to catching leaves and it has become an annual event. Especially on our hiking excursions where they are plentiful...
the kids like kicking the leaves(and each other) and playing in leaf piles.
The lake we hike to on a regular basis. I love seeing how it changes throughout the year. This is my favorite time of year to enjoy it..

Jeff took some video with his phone. We can get VERY loud while we catch leaves and we have to be careful not to bump into each other or run off the trail into a ditch... Greta won today for most leaves caught.

Good fun. We are obviously very easily entertained.

Pumpkin Patch

Greta doesn't do pumpkin patch field trips at school anymore so we went as a family to get our pumpkins today. The kids liked the hayride even though they thought it was to slow. They pointed the whole time, yelling "that is my pumpkin", "nooo that is my pumpkin", "look at that big pumpkin"..
They both have a hard time picking a pumpkin usually and today was no different

These are the ones they chose and then their lucky daddy got to haul them back to the tractor for our ride back.

We also picked up some things to decorate our porch. We are a little behind on decorating this year.
I think the four of us did good this year.
