All Aboard The Duct Tape Train

I can now add train builder to my resume. We've been busy this week building a train, complete with whistle, peanut butter jar lid wheels( I knew I kept them for a reason) and a window that opens and closes. Greta wrote each of their names on their train cars. This is a work in progress. We received another box today that will be used as the conductor seat. Greta read books in her train car this morning while the baby tried to scrap the train for parts. Good fun......

Fieldin At Almost 10 mths

9 mths lil' pudger

Oh my! I can't believe the lil' pudger is almost 10 mths. So here is what the little man is doing these days:

He is the best little dancer I think I have ever seen ( the minute he hears music he shakes his head side to side and flails his arms while moving his leg) The boy loves to dance. He likes being dressed as a superhero, He loves being with his sister, His favorite sport is tub splashing, He is trying to stand, He loves Mum Mum crackers (it is one of his first words. I hear this often "mama, mum mum") He loves to eat, Nothing is safe around him, nothing..., he is starting to say more words (when he starts talking I am sure he will never stop. He already "talks" ALL day we just have no clue what he is saying most of the time.), He likes a good game of peek- a-boo, His favorite song is still itsy bitsy spider, He is fearless like big sister, He has the funniest laugh and such a cute smile, He is VERY tall for his age like Miss Greta, He still has only two teeth, He is destructive, He makes us laugh, He is determined to take down his saftey gate, he loves tearing paper (His superhero name should be The Shredder) He could swing for hours, He gives slimey kissies, He sleeps less than his sister but you would never guess it, He is too smart for our own good, He's not a book lover like his sister, he likes singing better. He looks so much like my dad (He shares his same smile, expressions, wavy hair and facial features, Jeff and I both think Fieldin is very lucky for this). We call him "mini grandpa". We adore you Fieldin. Two more months buddy, until you are one-derful!!

Lucky Plant

This is my interesting little plant. I received a start from my neighbor a couple years ago. She had gotten the plant from a family member that lives somewhere in asia. This plant is hardy, and blooms only at night, so if you see it you're lucky. Even if you didn't see it, the fragance would wake one up out of a deep sleep. It is intoxicating and extremely stong. The fragrance takes over our home quickly and as lovely as the smell is, we end up moving the plant to the garage. By morning the huge bloom is done. Another cool thing, the plant blooms differently for each person. I researched on line to find out more about it and people have stories of it blooming yearly to every 4-40 years. My neighbor and I even have a difference in our bloom schedule. Mine has bloomed for me twice and the first bloom was 10 months ago right before Fieldin was born and then again last night. We had been watching the bloom grow, which it has quickly over the last few days. It looks like a cross between a prehistoric plant/Little shoppe of Horrors plant. The waxy leaves start turning red before a long bloom begins and then within hours this magnificent bloom appears. This was waiting for me when I got home from a late showing of Harry Potter last night. The fragrance hit me the second I opened the front door. Does it bring me luck? I don't know, but I do think I am lucky.

One Final Plea

Living in a college town is tough sometimes. This town has a rotating door. Every couple years we have a turnover of friends as they finish degrees, move on to new jobs or move back closer to their families. This is one of those turnover years. There is one person in particular I am going to miss terribly. I think Greta and I may have to hang outside her door with signs saying "Heck No, Sara can't go!"
Minnesota only has your family, great job oppotunity, wonderful food, amazing lakes, low house prices.... o.k., I guess we can't compete. We will miss you and Rob, never forget about us here in the wheatfields.....

She loves Him

So far this week has been a little quiet. We have been hiding indoors in the air conditioning. All activities have been done in the early morning. Greta got her first pair of roller skates today. We are headed out to the garage for her first time rolling. She has been very excited. " I need a pillow for my pants, please" She learned this from her mommy. :0)

We Wiggled

"You make me feel like dancin" Gret's favorite!
"Chug, Chug, Chugga, Chugga, Big Red Car. We travel near and travel far..."

Greta danced the whole time.
Miss Greta and I enjoyed a Wiggles concert this afternoon. She and the 4 year old sitting next to her danced their hearts out. She was excited to see Anthony(her favorite Wiggle!) only a few feet away from her. Very fun and they played most of her favorite songs.
In other news, the little man is ALL over the place. He is confinable no more. His favorite stop, Greta's room of course! Thats where all the drama lies and where trouble can be found. En route to Greta's room he likes to stop at the safety gate where he has a routine of beating it, then shaking it before squealing at it in disgust. Then with a quick turn he is down the hall. Fieldy has been taking short trips for a while but this long distance travelling is a bit new to us. The three of us give each other a look and say"Where'd he go?" then we all head out on the search.
Our house is now in a constant mess. Trying to pick it up is like shoveling snow during a blizzard, make that a double blizzard. Jeff keeps telling me it won't be clean for at least two years. This is true, so true. Anyone visiting is now forewarned.
Also, Jeff is happy to report our beloved hummingbird, Oscar, has returned again this year. Or at least we think it's Oscar?.......

New Friends

Miss Greta met some new friends yesterday. She is a big fan of the Berenstein bear books (like her mommy) and really wanted to sit on Mama bears lap. I was very excited to meet them myself. Glad they could visit from Bear Country!

I realized it's been awhile since I did an "about Greta" update. Here's what I know about Greta, age 4 years & 3 months.

She loves to write, She is crafty and creative, She is patient, She is caring( she made cards and a HUGE cookie for 2 friends celebrating b-days), She loves people, She has an extraordinary imagination (I hope you keep that forever Greta, never lose it) She shares well (her and her brother have probs sometimes though), She likes princesses and pink, She is funny, She reminds me ALOT of myself as a child and it makes me laugh, She is my buddy, She mothers her brother, She is still the best big sister in so many ways, She loses herself in her books, She is really into super heroes, She loves being crafty with scissors, She is independent, She loves dress up, she loves to tap and do ballet, She loves Hong Kong Phooey, She is a bubble master and she is still 50 % tomboy. We love you Greta. You are a special little, I mean, big girl.

"Girl's Only!" Camp Out

Miss Greta and I were in need of some serious girl time lately so we could catch up and have some fun, just us girls. So while the boys slept silently in their warm beds, I introduced Greta to the joys of tent camping. This was her first time camping so we set up in the backyard, as close to home as one can get. She did fantastic! Of course, wherever Greta is there are always books, so we did some reading by "Dora the Explorer" flashlight.
Made shadow animals, people and whatever we could make up.

played a late, late game of nighttime hide and seek. Wearing our glow necklaces so it wasn't too scary....

And Greta showing me her scary story telling faces... Love You Greta. Thank you for a wonderfully fun, stargazing, giggling time. Maybe we'll invite the boys sometime....

What I am Lovin' Part ??

Too Tired to upload pics tonight but need to make myself some blog notes.

I am lovin....
Fieldin so happy with himself since he started clapping and realizing he is actually clapping.
The awesome fireworks display that we get to watch each year from our deck. Thanks neighbors!
Having two farmers markets to visit each week.
Playing pirates with Greta and watching her make treasure maps.
S'mores.
Summer storms and todays weather...

Fieldin just had his 9 month appointment. Almost 25 lbs and 31 1/4 inches long. He's a big sweet boy and quite the character. He and his sister are very cute together these days.

It's Pretty Hard Work..

Observing the 4th of July is so rough. Spending the morning in the water, coming home to ice cream and then a two hour nap for everyone! An evening of Independence cookie making and a fridge full of homemade salads.

This will be Greta's first year of enjoying pop-its. I remember these from when I was a kid. Not too dangerous but I will be right there watching every move nontheless.

Handmade patriotic banners and flags flying. Happy 4th everyone!
