In the Waves

Living With A Royal

We now live in a castle and we have a Royal in our midst. Living with a Royal is a bit tough sometimes. I am not sure when she is Greta or Cinderella. "Mommy" she says, "if I don't have the super fancy princess shoes on, I am just Greta". I guess it is the crown and all those Princess skirts that are throwing me off.

We were also appointed to our royal jobs today. I am the royal gardener(I help cut roses for her vases and pull the mean weeds), Jeff is the royal cook/baker and prince Fieldin is the royal water getter. I am not sure what his job entails but I have a feeling he will do poorly since he can't reach the sink, I mean water well, this is a castle after all. I must say her Royalness is quite nice, at least she lets us live here.

I was lucky enough today to have all my wishes granted by two princess/fairy godmothers waiving wands wildly in my face saying "Bippity Boppity Boo" and "Do you wish for a unicorn?". They spent most of their time granting me a new gown and a pretty hairdo. I took this as a hint to comb my hair and change my sweats, sadly their magic wasn't quite strong enough for me to do that.

I must go, my gardening duties are done and Ihave been summoned to make woodland creature sugar cookies. I'm always up for making a cookie that looks like a hedgehog...

U-Eat berries

I have a memory of being small and picking strawberries with my dad and sister. I remember them hunched over searching for berries and I stood there eating. And eating. And eating.

Today I picked and Greta ate. She had the better job, but I must say I had my share too. Nothing beats fresh berries. At about her tenth strawberry she says" This strawberry is going to a party". "What party?" I ask. "The strawberry party in my tummy." giggle giggle.

The scene looked much the same while picking blueberries and mullberries. "Sometimes you just have to taste test" she said. I agree fully.

Chug Chug Chuggin' Along.. Part II

We rode Thomas the Train. How cool. Greta LOVED it. She never looked away from the window the whole time. She sat in her seat on her knees, face and hands up against the window, enjoying the sites and singing the whole time. She was so happy. She said her favorite part of the day was meeting Sir Topham Hat. I liked seeing both babes take their first train ride together. Good job Thomas. You are such a useful engine.

The Kids This Week...

Here are a few things I am enjoying about the kids this week..

That after moving Fieldin to the center of the car right up next to Greta while travelling a week ago, Greta has decided she wants Fieldin to stay where he is. They sit next to each other and giggle, hold hands, rough house. All this isn't distracting until I hear things like"Mommy, I think Fieldin scraped his eyeball"...

Greta pushing the Kid cart at our favorite grocery store. Acting all grown up while she "shops". My favorite is when I am examining a label and I see Greta move sale signs in front of her favorite goodies and say " Look, mommy, these are on sale!" and she throws it in the cart. If only things worked that way, there would be a sale on cookies every day :)

The pathway of destruction through our living room. You can see Fieldins' bottom scooting trail with toys and chaos on either side. You know the little fellows been there.

Watching the two of them splash water at each other in the bathtub and their hysterical laughs that follow. There is splashing, shoving, water pouring over the head..it is quite a sight.

Greta wanting her hair cut like mine and Greta making the front page of the newspaper for the second time. She was tap dancing and she is so proud...

Fieldin throwing smashed peas on the floor and the mischievous toothy smile he gives me before he makes a BIG mess.

You two are so wonderful.

Wuv and Mawwage

We are still very snuffly around here so this post title is exactly how I sound.
Happy 9 years Jeff! I remember 12 years ago when we just started dating, you came over to pick me up and you found me trying to duck tape a window back together. You smiled and shook your head and helped me with my duck taping. I don't remember why I was duck taping the window. I am sure it was a great story, like they always were. I do remember telling you if you stuck around me long enough that life with me would always be interesting. I didn't lie did I ;)?

Thanks for 9 happy years in mawwage and 12 total years of wuv and happiness.

We've been hit..

Greta's been sick for a few days(A good-bye gift from pre-school) and Jeff and I thought we were out of the clear until this afternoon. We are officially sick and it hit us like a freight train. Three down, one to go. We are watching the only healthy one play with his toys(that kid has jedi like reflexes) and watching him scoot on his bottom in circles(he only goes to the left). We'll be huddled under blankets, drinking warm tea and watching Peter Pan the rest of the night. Summer viruses are so cruel......

Waitsburg Was Worth The Wait

Today 3 foodies (Me, Jeff and our pal Mark) and the two little babes, headed on a Sunday drive to Waitsburg. The food options in our town are pretty boring, mainly cheap college grub. Waitsburg touts a cool public house and very cool bar to get your spirits, a great brewery that also has an AMAZING root beer and the best southern food I've ever had even when I was in the South. We spent a wonderful two hours at Whoopemup Cafe. Perfectly prepared food and amazing service. If anyone out there is craving frog legs and coca-cola cake this is the place. Our little foodie road trip started the birth of a new blog "Foodies Confined". It will be a collaboration between Mark and I and I am so excited. I hope it becomes a place where foodies can post there hidden food gems, favorite recipes, foodie road trip adventures and a place where Mark and I can get people together for foodie road trips like ours today. I just did a little work on the new blog tonight so hopefully it will be up soon. I will post the link when it is ready. All foodies Rejoice!

8

Sometimes if I pay close enough attention, I notice themes among my days. Recently it has been the number 8.

8 = The number of circles Greta and I rowed our little boat around instead of going straight. I was teaching Greta to row(while singing Row, Row, Row your boat) because I am teaching her my list of skills every woman should know. Every gal should be able to row her own boat. We practiced for awhile and if we weren't going in circles we were being dragged down river by the current. Life lesson #1,324...always pack a motor..just in case.

8= The inches of my hair I watched drop to the salon floor. Hello Summer hair.
8= The number of fun and creative hours I spent scrapbooking with a group of lovely ladies. Thank you Laurie and Thank you Jeff for holding down the fort.
8= The number of times my heart melts when I hear Fieldin say "hi" to whomever will listen. He is so excited he can communicate with others.
8= The number of times I've heard Greta say "Mommy, Fieldin is saying "hi" to strangers, that's not good. "
8= The number of hours of sleep I dream of getting tonight....

A Lentil Update

I have been experimenting with the lentil once again. I made it to Lentil Cookie Version 2.0 which was as good as 1.o but not perfection. Then I started getting more adventurous with the poor legume and tonight made my first lentil iced coffee. Thank you to Mark who had the guts (literally) to try it. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't good. Back to making lentil cookies. I am not going to make my July deadline so I will work on recipes for next year. I must admit, the smell of lentils is starting to get to me.....

Summertime, Summertime, Sum, Sum, Summertime..

SCHOOLS OUT FOR SUMMER!!... so today we say good-bye to Greta's first year of school. I have to say I've been really impressed with their curriculum. Greta said this morning that she will miss snack time, being snack helper and page turner. She has a summer of fun ahead of her and the next thing we know she'll be back to school again....I know Fieldin is over the moon happy that school is over. ;)
(Greta and her height flower. She's 44 inches tall!)

(Greta dancing with her teacher)
In August when she returns she will have a new teacher, new class and will go an extra day. She is already excited for next year. Then comes Kindergarten.....*sigh*.

Today I am lovin'

Taking June portraits of the kids, Making a turkey dinner out of playdough, taking this beautiful girl to the movie"Up"(very cute by the way), moving lots of heavy furniture, watching Fieldin scoot in circles so fast the camera can't catch him, cuddling in bed with the kids and reading during a storm, cutting up strawberries and rhubarb for a batch of late night jam and knowing I get another sunset show in just a few minutes......

A Little Fellow & His Beloved Hammer

This hammer actually belonged to Greta and though I don't believe she was ready to give it up, Fieldin slyly took it one day and has called it his own ever since. While other kids attach themselves to soft cuddly things, he has picked a hard hammer that bangs VERY loudly. He adores it.

The hammer is usually with him at ALL times. On the few rare occasions it isn't clenched in a chubby hand, Miss Greta tries to take it back. But now, even the bravest in our house knows ..DON'T TOUCH HIS HAMMER! If you make this mistake, it will only happen once. The terrifying scream that comes out of that little man even makes Greta throw it back and run. Once back in his grip, all is well with the world and the banging continues.

Today, like every day lately, was filled with little DIY projects. Fieldin decided to help by banging on the cabinets which was quite helpful for Jeff, who was trying to concentrate on electrical wiring. We will have another project for our list soon....Safety gate. The little fellow is tired of Miss Greta running from him. Crawling isn't working out and trying to walk is too difficult so now he scoots on his butt. It may take him a long time, but he will eventually get where he is going. If not, he yells for his mama taxi.
I am excited for the week to come. Greta says farewell to her pre-school class for the summer and we have some good stuff planned. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

48 Hours

Fieldin is loving his crackers. He can chomp them now with his two new shiny teeth.
Marshmallow mouths as we say goodbye to the day.

I love that we get to enjoy sunsets like this every night.

After preschool snack of strawberry, rhubarb & wheat muffins.

Greta has been in a "match mommy" phase lately. Same clothes, hair and nails. I love my sweet girl.
The rest of our moments have been busy, mostly with the house. I am getting to know the guys at Sherwin Williams. We are realizing our little home is now 7 years old. Which means we have been in our town now for 7 years. We bought the house thinking it would just be our home for two years. Seven years and two children later it needs a little refreshing. This weekend will be full of sanding decks and other little projects. Then we will call in the contractors(who are way more qualified than us) to finish up a few things.

A Glimpse Of The Day

Making invites for a friends baby party. This isn't her first child so she isn't having a shower, she is having a get together of friends to work on the nursery. Can't wait!

Pancakes for dinner. Breakfast twice a day can't be beat.

My monthly cleaning of the kids closets and the pile of outgrown clothes and baby gear! It's been looking like this alot lately. Slow down kiddos!!!

Greta couldn't decide.. Pink or Chicago Cubs blue. So she decided to do every other nail a different color. Love it!

Naptime. They look so tired. Fieldin got his second tooth today. He loves crunching his crackers now. The day also had lots of swinging, playing and dishwashing. One of these days it would be fun to do a 24 hour photo diary of pics to see how much we do in a day. One of these days.....
