First Parade- Marching band

Those pink drum sticks got more use than normal today. Greta drummed in the Veteran's Day parade which is a pretty big honor for a 6th grader. She earned a varsity sweater to march and was very proud.

This lil' man made his own flag that he waved proudly. And, yes he is wearing his pajama shirt. He said it was his army combat shirt...

He enjoyed the parade and after 3 hours of watching for her.. her school finally came around the corner.
she is drumming at the far end, and for the first time I can call her the short one.. she is next to 8th graders and looks so small!

She did GREAT. 2 1/2 miles carrying a heavy drum. Her first parade. She has two more parades this year. They all sounded great. They marched so well and so fast it was almost impossible to get photos!

Election Woes

If you know our children, you know they have always had strong opinions that have never been afraid to share with the world. During this election season, that did not change, they watched the debates and listened and read the news. Both were anti- Trump from the get go. This is a sign I found that Fieldin made the night of the election.
He couldn't be much clearer in his thoughts
This says.. "it's the end of the world with Trump! Boom! Fall of the Wall!
Then there is a picture of Trump making sniffing noises like he did during his debates..
Strong opinions and thoughts for a 8 year old  indeed.

Goodbye Sweet Chompers

Our special Chompers... one minute he was fine and then he was gone. He passed away on Halloween night. We took him to the vet that night thinking he had a bladder infection possibly and turned out to be serious bladder stones. You would not have known it. He never showed signs of being in pain to us. He was gentle and loved us up until the end. It was devastating. We loved Chompers so very much. I still think the shock hasn't subsided and we still look for him as we enter rooms and return from errands. There is such a void in this house.
We waited a week to bury his ashes because it was so hard to say goodbye.

This was so hard to watch. Seeing the kids say goodbye.

We read a poem and buried some of his favorite toys with him, and then we cried.
He is buried in his favorite place in the backyard where he could see the neighbor dog, a perfect spot to see his blue birds and where he could see us at the sliding door. When we would call him to come in his meow always sounded like 'no" :)
He was such a special part of our lives and we all thought he would be with us until the kids were saying goodbye to their high school years. He was taken so soon. We love you forever Chompers. you are so missed..

Halloween

This year for Halloween we had a Wierd Al Yankovic and WSU football quarterback Luke Falk.

candy trading after trick or treating and yes, the kids sold their candy to the dentist again this year...

Pumpkins II

Fall pumpkin cake

The kids baked and decorated their annual pumpkin Fall cake. It tasted wonderful minus the 5 pounds of candy on the top:)

Pumpkins

It was a gorgeous day for pumpkin carving. Fieldin has really been into Charlie Brown this Fall so out pumkins had a Peanuts theme to them.

Around Here- Fall

Around Here...
Greta visits the animals down the street from us almost everyday and on her way home from school. Fieldin has named them. He likes to feed the goats and pig carrots and apples. He named the pig Oinky and the goats, Murphy and Abigail.

I love this pig...

Fall at our house and we've been celebrating a big Chicago Cubs world series win this year.
Jeff had knee surgery so all the cubs games came at perfect timing.

It's been a beautiful Fall around here but with Jeff's knee and me with a tweaked neck, we haven't been out as much as normal.

This guy got invited to a 80's roller skating party and went all out on his outfit.
That was my shirt from when I was his age.
some things around here never change.. Greta is still doing experiments and growing "stuff" in my kitchen.. good fun.
 He looks thrilled
Both kids are always creating something, which usually ends in a huge mess so very thankful that we have a room to contain it.

The weather is changing so its time to get out my knitting needles. I made Greta a hunger games scarf..
