Aroound Here

The boys are planning to learn Chess this year together.
And I have realized I am(my body is) too old for bubble soccer :( Fun but moving the next day is a bit tough.

Wax Museum Day

Really enjoyed seeing the 5th grade at Greta's school do their wax museum presentation's. They each had to pick a person in history, dress up like them and pretend to be them. When the bell rang they  froze as wax characters and then when it rang again they would come to life and tell their audience about their life. Very fun!
Greta was Dimitri Mendeleev, the creator of the periodic table. She did a great job.

Happy Pi Day 3-14

One of Greta's favorite day of the year, March 14th or 3.14 or Pi day.
She brought in mandarin orange Pi treats to her class.
I made her a headband with the Pi symbols on it for the special day.

Around Here

Around here...
we are slowing down a little bit and enjoying Spring and activities.
This week is Spring break so playing catch up and relaxing a bit...
Gret had another volleyball tournament yesterday and they played really well.

you can always find Greta on the court with her bright pink shoes.
Had to add in a pic of Fieldin in his St. Patricks day outfit.
And one last volleyball pic.

They Are The Champions

Greta's team and part of their school took a bus to another local school to do their final battle of the books championships.
 Getting set up and ready
Announcing the teams...
 The battle is on.
The winners with their prizes, Fieldin took time out of school to cheer on Gret's team. He can't wait to battle in 3rd grade. Two more years...

The girls and their teachers that run the battle of the books program at their school.
Then she came home to find out that she won Reserve Champion in her food competition last Saturday. She was pretty excited. What a day!

Spring In Full Swing

Cooking Competition

Today Greta had her 4-H cooking competition. She had 45 minutes to make her item, do a table setting and clean up. Then she was interviewed. She made Gluten Free pumpkin pancakes while the judge looked on. She did great, and as usual made sure she was precise with her measurements which was time consuming since she uses 5 spices on top of everything else. They are so good and the judge thought so too.

Setting up and mixing her wet ingredients
getting her table setting ready below as the pancakes cooked.

 Checking her pancakes
 During the interview, below.
Another Blue she was excited and now waiting to see if she will get a champion ribbon. Hopefully she will know in a couple days. Great job, now you are the official pancake maker every Saturday.. HA!

Makin' Money

Greta has been busy in her not so spare time doing a fund raiser for her school during her lunch breaks.
Somehow they have made $80 during three lunches from garbage.
The kids at lunch give them their small chip bags after they are done eating, Gret and friends wash them, shrink them in the oven and turn them into keyrings and then turn around and sell them back to the people that gave them the bags...sounds crazy but it works. Pure profit. Very proud of their hard work, responsibility and resourcefulness.

Battle Of The Book Champions

Greta has made it to the school championship for Battle of The Books since she was able to compete in third grade. This is her third and last year..sigh. It has been a fun ride to watch and most importantly introduced some lovely books to Greta that have become some lifelong favorites.
They won the school championship this year and will compete with another school this coming week. She also won $15 in free book money which she is most excited about...
Good job!

The questions were really hard this year and another team was also quick to their buzzers put they pulled through...
 The champions!
As her treat, Greta wanted to go out for Hungarian food for dinner and dessert.
Congrats Gret and Good Luck this week!

Around Here

Life has been very full lately and I have ignored the blog too long. Both Jeff and I are in our busy time at work, the kids are enjoying church activities, Gret's battle of the book team made it to the championships for the 3rd year in a row! 4-h is in full swing, so is volleyball and big projects at school. Here is a little of what I photographed...
Greta with the 5th and 6th grade band. She did drums and bells for this performance.
Fieldin is still busy making crafts.. I love the ideas he comes up with.

watching OSU lacrosse. He loves it.
He reached the 100th day of school. Here is his hat and necklace.

The suit of armor he made out of paper and string.
Greta and her friends busy making shrinky dinks and shrinking chip bags for keychains that they are selling at school to raise money for the 5th grade outdoor school fund. They worked really hard so I hope they sell them all.
Taking a break to watch a Mary Poppins play with Gret and her friends.
Fieldin picking out his new lacrosse stick. We had starter sticks and a net that have all broken with constant use (not to mention lots of lost lacrosse balls) so it was time for a stronger upgrade.
Between drumming sounds, crafty sounds, lacrosse sticks flying in the house, playing mom taxi and trying to help the cat keep a few of his nine lives, life has been busy but very great.

This Cat..

This cat...
Is like having another child.
but we love him so...
Jeff was doing some work outside and even though Chompers is afraid of heights and has been stuck numerous times on a ladder he decided to climb up anyway and had to howl for help. Luckily, Jeff was nearby to rescue him.
This cat wears t-shirt. This is Fieldin's 2t shirt from when he was little.
This cat knows when it is about meal time and takes a seat at the table to eat with us. He doesn't budge and has to be moved...here he is waiting for breakfast and hopefully bacon. Once again, he was out of luck.
