Fieldin's Turn With The Paint Brush

Greta was gone again for a weekend so it was a good time to focus two days painting and reorganizing the lil man's room. He picked "Cathedral Grey" which looks great with all his Star Wars stuff, nice choice Fieldin.

The end result. Lots of storage for all his books and Lego Collections.
He wanted some baseball stuff mixed with the Star Wars

Happy to open up the room and give him more storage, finally.
He has so many posters he wanted up, there wasn't enough room so we can switch things out once in awhile. His favorite cartoon to read is Calvin and Hobbes so below are Calvin and Hobbes characters as Chewbacca and Han solo. This is his favorite thing. The other Chewbacca and Han Solo drawing he also picked out and both are from an artist in Moscow, Idaho. The two posters he got out of cereal boxes and he had fun checking stores for the "special boxes".

 Star Wars stuff...
We left the art on his door as is because it is always funny. The newest pieces says storm troopers "yes" (to come in) Droids "no" Clone Troopers "no" etc....
We are all happy with how it turned out. May the force be with you to keep it clean, Fieldin.

Soccer Balls and English Accents

Little man is spending the next 5 days at soccer training. Three players from the United Kingdom are here to work on skills. Today was his first day and he is loving their accents and what he is learning. After training he came home and got out his soccer cones. Fieldin says he is from "Eng..land" trying out the accent and trying to understand their humor :)
His coach thinks he is the tallest 6 year old boy in America and said to keep feeding him whatever it is we give him. Since he is happy only eating Indian food, noodles and cheez-its and berries, not sure that is really helping...
Getting ready to play goalie
taking a break..it is supposed to be in the 100's this week so it's going to be hot...I will be packing a cooler for him the rest of the week with gatorade...

Hooky Day

Once upon a time we spent many days in the ocean air, but those impromptu beach days are getting harder to come by. So, sometimes you just have to take a hooky day and get some sand on your toes or if you are Fieldin, sand in your pants...
Little man spent a good hour just racing the waves. I think he is even faster in water.
 He loves the ocean.
while he played in the water, we played some netless  competitive racquetball. We had to get home by early evening and it was so hard to leave.

New Digs

I've been wanting to get Greta's room painted for a while. It has been 5 years now since we moved here and the walls are starting to show wear. I had Greta pick out the color and we put a swatch on her wall so she could see what color she really wanted in the end and she chose "Hidden Sea Glass".
She wanted cork boards so she can hang up things that inspire her.

We got rid of some stuff and moved all the furniture and she decorated it with her favorite things. Art, legos, her playmobile volleyball set, shells etc.

She wanted a open spot for her framed periodic table.
I painted her name below before she was born. I thought she would want to get rid of it after seeing the letters every day for ten years but she wanted them put back in the same spot and wanted to keep them the same colors.

Once she got started there was no turning back, but she likes it very much. She likes how bright it is and says her room "looks like a Better Homes and Garden room".

Backyard Camping

Now that we have been home and caught up on some rest, it was time to set up the tent in the backyard for the kids to camp out or star gaze. Every few days it will need to be broken down so the poor dying grass can be watered.
of course the cat has to be where the children are and very content to sleep in a tent.
 hand puppets with the flashlight
stargazing seems to be the most fun activity this year and telling scary stories....

She Is Growing Feathers

As a Coug, I have been spending way to much time in Duck Territory with all the track and now volleyball....but the school is growing on me and Greta really wanted to go to camp there this year. I have to admit it was the best camp she has had and she loved it. After three days, she is pretty tired and happy with what she learned.
Volleyball players have the most fun games and here she is doing a speed game. She is in the green shirt.
Serving (in the purple shirt)
camp lesson on blocking, she is standing in the green throwing the ball.
First day of camp
last day of camp with U of O players that coached her. They were so great!

Day One
And more serving. She came into camp pretty strong and left stronger with little tweaks fixed. She has a great serve and wants to be a spiker and by the end of camp I was amazed watching her spike balls over the net. Not bad for a 10 year old. All the girls were so amazing to watch, a fun time.

Sewing

Greta has been busy with some sewing projects this summer. Luckily for her she has had some great help from two wonderful ladies since we all know I am not good at sewing, not at all.
She stayed with our dear friend Hillary during her volleyball camp and during the days they worked on this periodic pillow that Greta just loves. It is pretty cool.

Then a coworker of mine has helped her with a Star Wars blanket for Fieldin made out of an old sheet of Jeff's. It is turning out great. Now that she has it home we will be working on it bits at a time at home until I need to call in more sewing backup!
The blanket is for Fieldin but the cat thinks it is for him...

Still Running

Mostly Fieldin has been running the All-Comers meets down in Eugene at Hayward Field, while Gret has been at camps but there was a Wednesday she joined us.
I had to put in this pic of Fieldin with his pitching ace medal. I think he wore this for two days straight...
Back to Hayward Field, Greta clearing the high jump pole above. She did really good for her first time ever trying it.
Fieldin hasn't been taking his running as seriously this summer. He mostly just wants to hang with his friends, after all he is 6 years old.  Ever once in awhile he gets that competitiveness back and he flies.
Greta running the 100 meter. She likes field events and doesn't like running. Fieldin likes to run and doesn't like field events. :)

A Favorite Place

We love volunteering (playing) at Washed Ashore. Such a cool organization and the ocean is so dear to our hearts that we can't help but want to be a part of it in someway. Sadly, it is too far away for quick visits.
beautiful art and sculptures made out of items washed up on the beach.
On the 4th instead of helping on an art piece they had free art day which was very fun.

This new exhibit was amazing and when you closed the curtain it glowed in the dark some like you were way deep in the ocean.
Gret playing the drums on a styrofoam drum set.
It is always so hard to leave the beach. You think it would get easier over time but it doesn't.....
