Just some notes about life around here.
Last night, Jeff found Fieldin reading under his covers with a flashlight when he should have been sleeping. We all thought that was pretty sweet.
He has become a bit of a bookworm himself(just like his sister) coming home with his own bag of books from our library visits. He reads us bedtime stories now and his reading ability increases each week. It is fun to see him get so excited about reading. Our house is starting to look like a used bookstore with piles of books all over especially in Greta's room.
Greta is becoming very independent and has a pretty clear idea these days on what she likes and doesn't like. She will be happy to share her views with you too. Now that she is becoming a preteen hearing her views is great unless she is in grumpy Greta mode. Happy Greta now gets grumpy sometimes and we are learning to adjust :) She just informed us that she would like to continue basketball, stop volleyball for now and attempt spring board diving. It was a lot of info to take in over breakfast. She is learning what her "thing" is and exploring new hobbies so life just got even more interesting for us. Seems like lately we see changes weekly.
Greta's even more competitive these days. She has a strong inner drive. Case in point, she had the stomach flu earlier this week and missed two days of school, this rarely happens. On day two she was feeling better and her focus returned to school and a certain multiplication test. Three times a week her class takes multiplication tests and after they master each number in the end they earn a fully loaded ice cream sundae. Greta only has three more numbers. Shes passes each test and jumps onto the next number and I think she doesn't mind the fact she will be first to earn the sundae. So on day two of the stomach flu she tried to talk us into letting her go to school to take her next multiplication test after lunch.. We said no tests until you can keep down food, this is a new house rule.
I am also realizing we are past the days of fruit snacks, goldfish crackers and car movie players.. Greta wants to listen to her own music with earbuds now which means Fieldin does too( so he doesn't have to hear her sing). They now read in the back seat. No nintendo ds or movies for long drives anymore. They want to do mad libs, draw or talk our ears off :) They also want to go shopping for themselves, especially Greta.
Lately, every day is different and it is hard to remember the funny things they do and say which reminds me that I need to write it down more.
Wish us luck. ;)
